Day-wise itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Manali

Pick-up from Manali bus stand or Kullu airport. Rest and acclimatise. Overnight in Manali.

Day 2 Manali to Chandratal

Drive via Atal Tunnel and Kunzum Pass to Chandratal Lake. Overnight at a camp near the lake.

Day 3 Chandratal to Kaza

Drive over Kunzum La to Kaza, the main town of Spiti. Check in and rest.

Day 4 Kaza local sightseeing

Key Monastery, Kibber, Chicham Bridge, Langza, Hikkim post office and Komic. Return to Kaza.

Day 5 Kaza to Kalpa

Drive via Dhankar, Tabo Monastery and Nako Lake into Kinnaur. Overnight in Kalpa.

Day 6 Kalpa to Shimla

Drive through Kinnaur and the Sutlej valley to Shimla. Overnight in Shimla.

Day 7 Departure

Breakfast, check-out and drop at Shimla bus stand or railway station.

Questions before you book

What is the best time to visit Spiti Valley?

June to October is the main season, when both the Manali and Shimla routes are usually open. Winter (December to March) is possible only from the Shimla side and depends on snow and road clearance.

What about altitude sickness?

Kaza is at about 3,800 m, and Chandratal and the passes are higher. Spend a night in Manali or Kalpa to acclimatise, drink plenty of water, go slowly on arrival, and tell your driver if you feel unwell. Check with your doctor first if you have heart, lung or blood pressure problems.

Can I travel to Spiti with children or elders?

Roads are long and the air is thin, so we recommend a slower plan with an extra night for acclimatisation. Tell us who is travelling and we will adjust the itinerary.

Will the itinerary change with road conditions?

Yes. Landslides, snow and weather can close stretches of road, so the order of days may change. We keep to the safest option and tell you in advance.
